Pictures from around campus take Two!

I brought my camera on my way to a midterm review session, and here are some resulting pictures!

 I honestly think I've taken a picture like this too many times before, but here is a different part of the Quad. It reminds me of the quote, "all lines lead to one thing." At least, I think that's a quote...

 This one turned out nicely, I think. It's Suzzallo's facade. The lights that shine on it give it a weird and eerie blue glow.

This kind of goes back to the "light" challenge. but I actually ended up focusing on the wrong part. I am focused on the water and uneven cement in the foreground, when I think it would have looked better focused on the lantern's reflection. Oh well.

 This one looks a bit sterile, like the computer-generated architecture picture they show depicting how school improvements will look like. You know? No? Okay. Also, The main point of this picture was to capture the smoke from the smokestack, but I need to make the aperture wider, I think, in order for you to see it well. It looks a bit like a smudge.

And this last one, is of an interesting perspective of a bike rack. These racks are NEVER empty when I pass, so I thought I'd take a picture. 

"Light" Challenge

This week's challenge was light. I really like light, and especially how it has the property to draw the human eye so easily. It is a great effect in photography I like to work with and manipulate. I only had two subjects for this so far, but here they are:

This was a lamp from Bubble Oasis close up. Technically, I cropped it on the computer a bit to make it more interesting, but I didn't change the color or contrast or anything. I like the way it turned out. It reminds me a big of Chihuly's bright marbled colors.

The rest of these below, are of the paper I put over my lamp to try to diffuse the light. Printer paper was too thick to let light through, so I cut a snowflake design. It sort of works...sorta. I think I just need thinner paper like tissue paper or rice paper. Anyways, this first picture was a bit like a landscape/curvature of the Earth idea. 

And the last three just wouldn't upload onto this blog facing the right way for some reason. I ended up liking the way they looked tilted, so I just left them like that. The way it was supposed to look is the last picture.

Update: Shape Challenge

A few days after submitting my picture for the weekly photo challenge: shape, on my college's Photography Club page, it was posted as the photo for one of their upcoming events! I am really excited about this! Like, beyond the normal emotional response I should have about this. Oh well.

Shape Challenge

I am fascinated by light, and took a picture of both an unlit and lit light bulb hanging from a tree at the U village. I liked the bright light of the filament and its resulting reflection inside the glass. I just wish the PIATTI sign in the lower right corner wasn't there; I didn't notice it when I took the picture (I need to work on that).

I later submitted this to the Photography club's shape challenge.
